Base Metals Project Summary
The Bangemall Basin is a Proterozoic sedimentary basin similar in age to the Mt Isa Inlier. The area has been targeted in the past for sedimentary hosted Zn-Pb-Ag mineralisation by companies such as BHP, CRA, WMC and Pasminco. A number of these companies explored for base metals in areas now held by Encounter and the historical exploration data is currently being compiled. The potential exists for the Bangemall Basin to host a large scale Zn-Pb-Ag deposit similar to the Century Mine in Queensland.
Encounter's exploration tenure within the Yilgarn is predominantly within the granitic and gneissic terrains. It is interpreted that a number of these regions host remnants of greenstone stratigraphy that are prospective for both nickel sulphides and VMS style base metals mineralisation. In areas where Encounter has interpreted these remnants to occur, it is routine to assay for the base metal elements when completing reconnaissance programs. A number of areas of interest have been generated using this methodology.
